So the question is:

25 Nov

Will Jindal run in 2012? In many ways, Jindal is a great person to challenge Obama. He really neutralizes many of the arguments for Obama, and after you strip away all the irrelevant crap you have only governing philosophy left. On those grounds, Jindal wins.

McCain was a HUGE mistake last time (and I refused to vote for him–I wrote in the only competent candidate, Romney), and I think that we’re not going to have any more RINOs chosen by the GOP. McCain was rejected by the left and barely tolerated by the right. Not a winning combination. He thought he could be popular by simply being the poster boy for the mushy middle. How wrong he was. I’m glad Obama won and is taking heat, because McCain would have largely done the same things. I think you peel off some race-based voters with Jindal, though to be honest I couldn’t care less about race. I want competence. And that’s a very scare commodity with Obama.

Jindal says we should make congress

25 Nov

a part-time gig. There IS some real sense to that argument, though it of course will never happen… More’s the pity.

Actually, the more I think of it, why not make ALL federal folks (legislators, the President, the Cabinet) 1099 contractors? They have NO benefits, they pay a buttload of taxes, and they have to scrupulously keep track of their expenditures. OK, if you want to have health insurance for them, that can be arranged, but perhaps this arrangement would make them a little more sensitive to the spending binges they go on… I think that one change would drastically change the direction of the country. Is there a reason NOT to make them 1099 contractors? We could even raise the pay a bit to cover for it (not that pay is the motivating factor for most of them). But if they had to pay their portion of Social Security and the “employer’s contribution,” we might see some real change. And then about other taxes…

The truth is, I cook a lot

24 Nov

well, that has been curtailed a bit lately, but I still usually cook big meats. The truth is, there’s no reason to EVER cook poultry without first brining it. 20 minutes on boneless, skinless chicken breasts makes a HUGE difference.  And the best brine I have ever seen? Here. Thanks, Alton Brown! If you’ve got a good brine recipe, don’t hesitate to share it! I’m always on the lookout.

And right now turkeys are pretty cheap, so I usually buy a couple and put ‘em in the outside freezer for use later. It’s a great alternative to chicken, and it make great stock afterward.

UPDATE: As I was thinking the other thing I would never cook without is a probe thermometer. There’s no guessing as to when it’s done–you know the internal temperature exactly. Just put in in and put the meat in the oven.

Obama: approaching

24 Nov

Bush levels of competency. He certainly is careening toward Bush approval numbers! Well, yeah. The theme is that Bush was intermittently competent, while Obama has yet to show any competence at all.

Get a load of

24 Nov

this. It just keeps getting worse and worse for Obama. Better for us, though.

The best part is that he is now as liked as president as… (dare I say it?) Sarah Palin. Gee, how the worm has turned!

Take a look at this graph:

23 Nov

What it shows is that the costs of interest will skyrocket, and that servicing the debt will become by far the most expensive thing on our plate. THIS is the problem with profligate spending. Not only are there problems now, but there are HUGE problems later. Now I can put my head in the sand and pretend that the day of reckoning will never come, but that is just a bad idea.

I’m not trying to be alarmist,

23 Nov

but already we are seeing California teetering on the edge of absolute insolvency, and yet they keep on with policies that make it worse. And Obama wants the entire country to follow that example, when it is obvious that that dog don’t hunt! California is at the tipping point now (well, it has been for a few years) and the question is whether Idaho and Utah and Montana will bail their butts out. I hope not–let them lie in the bed they made, if you ask me. Anyway, I’m just tired of the stupidity. THIS is what happens when you elect people who have never run businesses, never lived off the sweat of their own brow, and have spent their lives sucking off the public teat. Let them be 1099 contractors for a few years and we’ll see if they survive…

The democrats have shown that they are

22 Nov

utterly irresponsible in terms of budget. Yes, I realize that there are tough choices to be made, but come ON! You can’t just bury your head in the sand, put your fingers in your ears and say, “La, la, la, I’m not listening!” That is the image we should all have of Pelosi. The sooner we get the maroons out of office, the better it will be for the country.

I hope Palin doesn’t try to run

22 Nov

Why?

I think she is a much better gadfly than presidential candidate. She seems to be chasing celebrity, and the last thing we need is another “celebritard” as president. She really pokes holes in the pompous lamestream media, and that is good, but she really can’t bring those considerable strengths to bear if she is a presidential candidate. I think she does a good job of championing conservative causes, and that would be diminished as a candidate. I don’t want that influence diminished.

Someone like, say, Romney would be a fantastic president and he has a broad and deep knowledge of politics in all it’s aspects. I don’t think (contrary to the lamestream media narrative) that she is dumb or that she would not do a dang sight better than the current buffoon in the presidency, but I think that she would do more good outside of political office. I think that’s what she wants, anyway. She would certainly make a whole lot more money that way, and she already gave up the Alaska Governorship after only 2.5 years or so. Would she win? I don’t know. It looks like it right now, but Obama is a good campaigner. He is a silver-tongued devil and he will make the most of any candidate who dares oppose him. And Palin gives him plenty of opportunity to eke out a win. I think he would have an easier time victimizing her than some others (and you know the lamestream media will help all they can).

I want Obama to be a one-termer. I want the GOP to capture the presidency in 2012. I think Palin takes the spotlight off Obama’s failures and puts it on her, and that is not what is good for electoral success. Obama has been a miserable failure, a butt, a putz. And anything that takes the spotlight off that is a problem.
