The Warren Buffett/Obama

26 Sep

tax of the “Super-Rich” is just plain stupid. And it avoids the important questions. Not only does it make no economic sense, but it just doesn’t work mathematically. But it makes good quips for a self-proclaimed “populist.” Empty quips, and ultimately utterly unsatisfying to the thinking crowd, but good for the masses. And it provides some sort of absolution to Buffett, at no actual cost to himself. Talk about cheap grace! This is grace at bargain-basement prices.

But like many commentators, I wonder why, if Buffett is so whacked out about the super rich not paying enough in taxes, he doesn’t just write a check to the IRS. He certainly could. I mean the guy is worth somwhere north of 30 billion. I bet he could write a check for on 5 billion to the gov’t. Yeah, I thought so. Just another hypocrite who is Jonesing for your money. If Buffett were a man of principle rather than a man of mere hot air, he would write a dang check! I just want to say, “Shut up and put your money where your flapping gums are!”

But no, he’s just another “celebritard.” Same goes for the myriad of empty-headed Hollywood turds. Shut up and sing, already! I like my paid monkeys mute. They are, after all, just paid monkeys.

Why I really hope that Chris Christie

25 Sep

does not get into the race.

Now don’t get me wrong–what I’ve seen of the guy I like. But I really don’t know much, and neither does anyone else. I like the straight-talking stuff, but is there other stuff, too?

He really said he was not ready to be President, and he gave a compelling case. He said that over and over, even when it was clear that he was a favorite. To go back on that now really weakens him. It weakens the very thing for which I like him–his straightforwardness. If a few months ago he had said he was persuaded (reluctantly) to run and he had come out with compelling ideas and understandings, that would be a different story. But I don’t like the Hamlet kind of inability to make and stick with a decision. Unless he has a very compelling reason for entering now, he doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in Hell. I do, however, think he would be a great VP pick, for a number of reasons.

If Christie were to get in the race now, he would be savaged by opponents (and the lamestream media). I really don’t want to see that. I think that he would quickly become just another GOP hopeful–like Perry (who is fading badly–to paraphrase a famous Roman [the young Pompey the Great to the dictator Sulla--a very dangerous move], people worship the rising sun, not the setting sun).

The most popular and best player on most football teams is the promising young 2nd-string QB. As we are seeing, Perry is the 2nd-string QB, but there is a reason he is not the starter. It’s rapidly becoming clear that Perry is not the answer (though of course he would be a better President than Obama).

I think that the GOP wants a “Rock Star” to match what Obama was. No thanks. Forcing the issue just seems like a bad idea to me. Again, I like Christie in a lot of ways, and I think that whoever the GOP nominee is will need to channel him to some extent. But I’m not at all sure that the time for Christie in 2012 has not already passed. I think that ship has sailed, and he missed the boat.

It’s a dang big deal.

23 Sep

Issa endorses Romney.

There are few people who have so consistently been a pain in Obama’s patoot for so long. From the budget (he is perhaps only behind Paul Ryan in this regard) to criminal investigations, Issa has been a bulldog. It is a big deal and a HUGE get for Romney.

Folks, it’s over. Romney just won the nomination.

The $16 muffin

23 Sep

is no joke.

Sure, we all grumble and roll our eyes and such stupid human tricks. But we need to understand that there is a serious aspect to this. With the HUGE budget deficit we have it’s not like a few $16 muffins are going to make all the difference. But the problems go much deeper that that, and they are part of the attitude. Here’s a quote:

The lesson of government waste, whether on $16 muffins or $535 million loan guarantees to solar power companies or $48 billion in“improper” Medicare payments, is one worth relearning every day.

Managers whose budgets do not depend on customer satisfaction and who do not face competitive pressure in the marketplace, will not, on balance, spend their money wisely. Vendors selling to those managers know that price matters much less than it does to, say, Wal-Mart. And anywhere there is political urgency and official involvement high up the command chain, conditions will begin resembling a gold rush.

Yep, the truth is that a person is not very careful with money when it is not their own. THAT is the overriding lesson of government.

For my own business I really want a scanner. Yeah, I have an all-in-one that scans, but it is slow. The one I want is a dedicated scanner that is very fast and it would really help. It also costs just north of $400. So I don’t buy it. Why not? Because it is my own money that is being spent, here. I can just wait for the one I have to do the job, even though it is much slower and far less efficient.

This is exactly why you never elect a guy who has not run his own business. Sorry, your vacations to Martha’s Vineyard are not “free.”

The U.S.

23 Sep

abandoning Israel makes the world a whole lot less safe. Why?

We all know that Obama is certainly no friend to Israel, the only bastion of western democracy in the Middle East. We know that Iran and others are desperately trying to get nuclear capabilities, and they will soon.

But we need to understand the psychology of all this. The Arab countries go to war when they think they can win. When they know they will lose, they stay quiet and relatively peaceful. But the U.S. is now signaling that they may not come to Israel’s aid, and so the Arab countries, led by truly mad men, are emboldened. Hundreds of thousands (probably millions) will be killed in the coming conflict. And all because the U.S. gave an uncertain trumpet sound when called on to defend Israel. Lots of U.S. boys will die, too.

Maybe we can get the buffoon Obama out of office before too much damage is done. Next time you are tempted to vote for a numbskull like Ron Paul and his foolish foreign policy, remember that there is a TON at stake. What he is doing will lead to death and destruction. Not content to ruin the U.S. economy, he is out (apparently) to destroy the world.

As usual,

22 Sep

Cheney was right about the reactor in Syria.

I know the left loves to demonize Cheney and say he’s “Darth Vader” and all that, but it’s not true. Cheney is the voice of reason. Many people were fooled into demonizing him, but they were wrong.

Now don’t get me wrong–I doubt very strongly that Cheney is perfect in every way. I’m just saying that this is a guy of sound judgment, and history bears that out. It has also shown that the critics were NOT of sound judgment. Those who are wise will admit their faults and go do better.
