Story: When I was a doc on a psych ward, one of the first things I did was buy a couple of boxes of donuts for the staff. And this didn’t happen just once. And I took time to sit and chat with the staff. It was a joy and a privilege!
And they always had my 6. If I messed up, I would get a call from someone saying, “Dr. Mendel, you probably ought to put a note in this chart before it goes to QA—I’ll just hold it here until you are in tomorrow.” They saved my butt many times over several years. And several people became trusted advisors in LOTS of things.
Treat people around you well… DON’T tell them they can’t look you in the eye, have to stand when you enter the room, or call you “General.” Don’t be a supercilious jerk!
