Peter Thiel on this, but it is likely true that “The Antichrist” spoken of in scripture is not so much a single person, but a role that has been played by many across time.
For example, the recent Pope John Paul seems to have been a very Godly man. While I myself am not Catholic, I can acknowledge that he was right and indeed valiant in many ways.
The current Pope? Not at all. He is, in fact, anti-Christ in many ways. He has tried to destroy faith.
Famously, Communism was and is overtly anti-Christ. For example, communist dictators in Russia killed any priest they could and set up a system to replace the church.
Currently, American Leftism works to put forth infanticide, drag queens grooming kids, backbreaking taxation at the point of a gun, cheering (not just tolerating) all sorts of sexual perversions, giving YOUR money (that they stole in confiscatory taxes) to favored clients, reliance on government, etc., etc., etc.
More to the point, Leftism sets itself up to be “a savior.” Their argument is this: “Not a single person will be ‘lost.’ Everyone will have what they want (therefore give ME the glory…).”
In other words, Leftism essentially replaces trust in God with reliance on the “arm of flesh.” And thus, it is anti-Christ. It is playing a role.
