mania is rapidly waning. Honestly, I just don’t think the battery technology or the infrastructure is there yet. Nor is it on the horizon. EV’s can be great in limited situations, but most places just get too cold for EV’s.
There’s no denying that they are glorified golf carts. And there is indeed a role for that. It’s just not the same role of ICE cars and (especially) trucks.
Toyota has been slow on the uptake when it comes to electric models, and now it looks like the automaker is pushing back its EV plans even further. Toyota announced that it would push back the production date of its next-gen Lexus EV from 2026 to mid-2027. Toyota first showed off its new Lexus EV concepts at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show.
Yes, there are tire and alignment issue. That is to be expected given these cars’ massive weight. But I think the propulsion and infrastructure issues are much bigger ones. And those ain’t going away any time soon.
Some like to say, “Yeah, but if we keep moving forward, technology will eventually save us!” Yeah, maybe…
