I do think that

this marks the apex of Gavin Newsom’s political career. I just don’t think he is a viable national candidate after this. Oh sure, he will try. But he is a political dead man, walking. It won’t even be Republicans that take him down–other Democrats have to be licking their chops with how vulnerable he is.

He is meat on the street.

However, the state and local leaders ultimately created all the conditions that resulted in a disaster that will likely outstrip Maui’s total devastation in our collective memories.

Yeah, Newsom had priorities, but they had very little to do with the people he was supposed to serve. Like many modern politicians, he has forgotten that this is NOT all about him; It actually is about serving others!

In conclusion: Bass’ future in politics and Newsom’s presidential aspirations can be added to the list of items destroyed in the Palisades fire.
