I think it was just a Trump hatred that was held with religious, nay, delusional intensity! And (liberally) laced with a deep narcissism. It was a kookiness that was extreme, that completely overwhelmed their good senses.
So they sold their respectability and reliability for the proverbial mess of potage. It was indeed foolish on a cosmic scale. But it is a manifestation of the power of personality pathology. And it is a warning to the rest of us, if we have ears to hear…
