is that the Democrats are SO stuck in Lefty fever swamps that they have little contact with people who are not rabid Leftists. So they think their wacky stances are normal. Because that is all they see.
For example, years ago I was working a lot with kids who were premature babies and had brain bleeds (as often happens). My good friend had a baby, and at 12 months or so the child started using some words.
I was dumbfounded. “Holy crap, Gene, that girl is a genius!” Well, she wasn’t–she was normal. Normal kids tend to get some words at about 12 months.
It was my sense of “normality” that was off. I had seen so many damaged kids that when I saw a typically-developing one my first impression was that she was very advanced.
Hard Leftists are in that same boat. They have spent so much time in Kookville that they think that such wacky ideas are normal. They need to re-calibrate, but they can’t unless they leave the Lefty fever swamp and interact with people who might disagree with them.
And THAT is strongly worked against in Lefty circles. There is a strong social pull, as well a pervasive “smarter-than-thou” pridefulness in play. Plus, there is the “Do not leave the Lefty circle of safety” and all that…
