The question I have is whether this will turn some of these celebrities “Red.“ I have a hard time thinking it won’t. I mean, look at many of the Eastern European countries. They were under the Jack-booted heel of the Soviet Union for a long time, and now they are moving in a completely different direction.
Senate Bill 549, which is moving through the California legislature, in addition to the county’s new ideas, would put in place so-called “Resilient Rebuilding Authorities” that give these bureaucrats new taxing authority, using such things as higher property taxes, tax-increment financing, and grants to buy up burned-out land and put in low-income housing. That’s right: They’d raise the prices of the property taxes on the very people they were supposed to be helping, gobbling up the Palisades and other fire-ravaged areas, and forever changing the community by infilling it with low-income apartment buildings.
As a wise man once said in speaking of eastern Europe, “Once the people were forced to drink out of the bitter cup of Communism, they were not eager to again stain their lips.” They learned a lesson that many Americans have not yet taken in.
So now that the Pacific Palisades fires have stained the lips of many famous Lefties, will they be eager to yet again drink the Lefty Kool-Aid? Oh, a lot of those folks are really not happy about being hosed over by the California government.
No water in the hydrants, little prepping for fires, no mayor on duty, dragging out the permit process to get landowners to give up and sell, and now the county and state are changing the rules on the fire victims.
I guess we shouldn’t be surprised.
But then again it’s probably overly hopeful to think that they may turn “red.” Leftism is very strongly entrenched in many of these folks, so they may squawk a little about getting plucked, but then go back to Leftism–like a dog to his vomit…
