The data are really
very clear. Conservatives are much happier than Liberals. It’s science.
Conservatives are more likely than liberals to be religious, patriotic and married, all of which are conducive to happiness. But even when these factors are accounted for, there is a residual happiness advantage among conservatives.
And that makes TOTAL sense to me as a psychologist. And I think it has to do with what we call locus of control.
Conservatism in general focuses on an internal locus of control. YOU are responsible, both for your successes and your failures. if you succeed, it is because of YOU. YOU are the master of your fate. You don’t need some hero on a white horse to come save you! YOU got this. You can make things better.
OTOH, Leftism focuses on external locus of control. It tells you that you are being kept down solely because someone else is taking advantage of you. You know, “The Man.” What you do doesn’t really matter all that much, because you are driven by forces beyond your control. You need some hero on a white horse to come save you and balance the playing field!
Guess which approach leads to more happiness?

Well, it’s no
surprise AT ALL. People have lost trust in the MSM because… the MSM has become untrustworthy.
There are several factors in play, here. One obvious one is that the MSM went all in on the Russia collusion hoax and it is now very clear that it was all a bunch of lies. And a bunch of deliberate lies.
So either they knew it was a hoax and outright lied, or were too stupid to know that it was a lie. And they didn’t want to even entertain the proposition that it was a lie and were too lazy and/or hackish to track it down. Neither option looks at all good on them. Me, I believe it is heavily weighted on the first option, with a smattering of the second one. But in any case, it was a total violation of trust.
Second, it has become clear that the MSM lies about Donald Trump all the time. They are not trustworthy. When they are fact-checked they show themselves to be completely dishonest. They have gone on and on saying bad things about Donald Trump, and they’re not even giving lip service to being fair! And we all see that.
The bottom line is that people no longer trust them. They are no longer seen as an arbiter of truth. There were always bias issues going on, but now for the MSM there’s not even a nod to being professional and objective. This all did not independently cause the decline in trust completely on its own, but it is certainly added to the decline and greatly accelerated it. I think it was a necessary condition, but not a sufficient one.
But now it’s all propaganda all the time–and the Russia, Russia, Russia hoax is by far not the only salient issue. They might tell the truth on important issues sometimes, but it is purely by accident or irrelevant to anything but the most mundane of issues.

would be REALLY funny?
I’m gonna laugh at my butt off if it turns out that a nominal Republican takes the California governorship! I strongly suspect that that won’t happen, and I don’t even know how conservative these two folks are. But it would still be dang funny!
And the fact that this happens because the Democrats rigged the election with a self-dealing “jungle primary” is just icing on the cake! Sometimes evil will doth evil mar…
But the question is whether or not Californians have finally had enough. I think that the recent Malibu fires have made the issues really quite clear, and galvanized even some famous people (like Adam Carolla) to talk loudly and openly speculate whether this will lead to erstwhile Democrats “flipping.” Many of the people who were Democrat cheerleaders are now getting hit pretty darn hard, which is bad for the Left.
Even so, it’s quite clear that Californians will not change their voting patterns until they hit “rock bottom.” The question now is whether this is “rock-bottom” for the population as a whole or not. And I don’t know the answer to that question but I kind of doubt it.

The split between
Democrat grassroot voters and the donor class is absolutely huge. And that is exactly why the Democrats are hiding the 2024 “electoral autopsy.”
The grass root people do not like the rich “millionaires“ who foot the bill for the entire endeavor. Actually, they just hate all millionaires. It is, of course, driven by greed and jealousy. So regular voters do not like them, but the party is itself cannot survive without them. Nor can they survive without those voters. It’s a real Catch-22.
And that dichotomy is a big deal. It is probably one of the main issues with the Democrat postmortem. And that is almost for sure why they will not release it. Because it shows, in clear terms, the huge split between the two camps.
I’m just not sure how Democrats can thread that needle. And they know very well that it is fraught with danger. So the answer for right now is simply keep that report from becoming public. The two sides simply cannot be reconciled. If you appease one, you necessarily lose the other.

OK, let’s review:
In Virginia, Abigail Spanberger ran very much as a moderate Democrat. And that got her elected.
But, as is almost always the case with Democrats, she was in fact quite a bit further Left than she intimated during the campaign. Once she got into office, she very immediately (within days) implemented some extraordinarily Lefty policies. And people were aghast at how extreme she actually was. Virginia citizens simply did not expect that. They got taken.
But this describes an important lesson: Democrats virtually always run as a far more conservative candidate than they actually are. It is a ruse, a scam. They know very well that if they run as who they actually are they would never get elected, so they pretend to be something they are not. It is really just an extension of what virtually all Lefties do.
And that should be a lesson to the rest of us. When a Democrat appears to be “reasonable” and “moderate,” they very well might be lying. You simply cannot trust what they are saying. It is a violation of democracy itself because it does not allow the voters to actually choose what they want. Why can they choose? Because the Democrat candidate is lying about who they are and what they will do.
And THAT is one reason the Democrat leadership is so upset about what Spanberger has done. It has pulled the curtain away from the scam they are running. It has made voters much more cautious. And that kind of cautious evaluation is exactly what Democrats do not want. They want people to vote with their spleens, not their brains.
